The Frist Center provides a variety of printed and electronic resources for educators and the general public to use to gain further information about exhibitions or to further their study of art.

Teaching packets from past exhibitions are available for checkout in the Frist Center’s Art Library and Resource Center.  Select teacher’s guides are also available online (requires Adobe® Acrobat):

ART TRUNKS

Art Trunk portfolios are educational packets designed to enrich understanding of past art exhibitions at the Frist Center. The portfolios include 16” x 20” color reproductions of artwork from specific exhibitions, related books and materials about the exhibition and Guided Lesson plans for three activity sessions. Select Art Trunk Portfolio Catalogue for a complete listing of portfolios available for checkout in the Frist Center’s Art Library and Resource Center.

The Art Library and Resource Center (ALRC) provides opportunities for visitors, students and educators to engage in further study of art or to research current exhibition themes. Three public-access computers and a video viewing room allow visitors to search the Internet and preview software, videos and DVDs selected to accompany Frist Center exhibitions. The ALRC also provides access to the Nashville Public Library's resources through an extensive partnership. If you would like more information, contact the Education Department at  (615) 744-3355.

Volunteer opportunities are available in the Art Library and Resource Center.


 

SCHOOL FACULTY & PTA / PTO PRESENTATIONS

School faculty and PTA / PTO presentations are available to schools in the Nashville area. Create a learning partnership between teachers, parents, and students by inviting the museum to present at your school faculty and PTA / PTO meetings. A Frist Center representative will share the various learning opportunities available to children. To schedule a presentation, call (615) 744-3329 or e-mail asteele@fristcenter.org at least one month in advance.

TEACHING PACKETS

Teaching Packets are pre-visit materials designed to prepare students for their visit.  Available for selected exhibitions, teaching packets contain color reproductions and a teacher's guide with exhibition information, curriculum connections, related activities, and resources. These materials are automatically distributed to educators who schedule docent-guided or self-guided tours.
