MARTIN ARTQUEST GALLERY
Our interactive education gallery

LEARNING IS FUN IN THE MARTIN ARTQUEST GALLERY!

The ArtQuest Gallery is graciously endowed by Ellen H. Martin, Charles N. Martin, and The Martin Foundation and supported by The Cal Turner Family Foundation and The William Stamps Farish Fund.

As soon as visitors approach the Upper Level of the Frist Center, they can hear the lively sounds of visitors having… fun in the award-winning Martin ArtQuest Gallery, the Frist Center’s colorful interactive space. Often called the heart and soul of the Frist Center, ArtQuest’s thirty incredible hands-on stations invite visitors to become artists as they learn. Visitors of all ages are invited and encouraged to create prints and collages, paint and sketch, or learn about photography, architecture, and the essentials of art, including depth, color, light, and perspective. The activities at the stations change as the Frist Center’s exhibitions change, so there’s always something new to try!

The Martin ArtQuest Gallery is not just for kids. Everyone is welcome to come in and learn about and make art. Why, it’s not at all unusual to see a grandparent, parent and child all participating in the same engaging activity.

Martin ArtQuest is staffed by trained art educators and knowledgeable volunteers to help everyone create and learn about art!

ArtQuest Hours:
Monday through Saturday:
10:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Sunday: 1:00–5:30 p.m.

The activities in ArtQuest address three areas of art learning:

Art Essentials
Art Essentials activities examine specific elements of art, such as line, color, and texture.

Art Materials and Techniques
Art Materials and Techniques activities encourage visitors to create artworks using a variety of artistic media and methods.

Art and Meaning
Art and Meaning activities provide visitors with opportunities to think about and discuss art with others.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while in ArtQuest.

Art Supplies

The Frist Center Gift Shop has packets of art supplies used in ArtQuest available for purchase.

ArtQuest Card and Digital Portfolio
Visitors are able to develop their own digital portfolio, which contains works of art they create in ArtQuest. The portfolio may be accessed in the ArtQuest Gallery or in the Art Library and Resource Center via the ArtQuest Card, or on-line at http://www.projectaccess.org/ via your ArtQuest ID number.

Volunteer opportunities are available in ArtQuest.
