Young Tennessee Artists
2008 Statewide Advanced Placement Studio Art
September 19, 2008–January 4, 2009
This second bi-annual exhibition showcases a selection of the finest artwork created by Tennessee high school students who were enrolled in Advanced Placement Studio Art programs in 2008. The thirty-six drawings, paintings, photographs, and mixed-media works were chosen from more than seven hundred submissions from twenty schools statewide. 
The College Board’s AP Studio Art program makes it possible for highly motivated high school students to participate in university-level art study. With the encouragement and guidance of committed AP teachers, these students produce work that challenges their own artistic perceptions and develops their aesthetic approach, both in concept and execution. At the end of the school year, students submit portfolios of their work to the College Board for evaluation. These evaluations enable colleges to acknowledge and encourage students’ accomplishments by granting credit and placement.
This exhibition features a selection of the art these students created for their portfolios and includes work executed in a variety of media, representing a diversity of content, style, and technique.
This exhibition was organized by the Frist Center for the Visual Arts.
