Mayor’s Art Show: Section 2

Created as an opportunity to recognize the artistic accomplishments of Metro Nashville Public School students, Mayor Phil Bredesen launched The Mayor’s Art Show during his term in the 1990s. The Frist Center began hosting this annual art show in 2004 during Mayor Bill Purcell’s term and is continuing the tradition with Mayor Karl Dean.
The 2010 Mayor’s Art Show is composed of two sections. On view from March 25 through April 8, the first section highlights artworks by K–12 students from seven school clusters: Antioch, Cane Ridge, Glencliff, Hillsboro, Hunters Lane, Pearl-Cohn, and Stratford school clusters. The second section of the 2010 Mayor’s Art Show will feature works by students from the Hillwood, Maplewood, McGavock, Overton, and Whites Creek school clusters. It will be on view from April 22 through May 6, 2010.
Art teachers in each school were able to select two works per grade level for inclusion in the exhibition. More than four hundred young artists from kindergarten through twelfth grade are included in this exhibition. The variety of images and subject matter reflects the diverse backgrounds and ideas of Metro schoolchildren.
